OUT OF THIS WORLD :: An Experimental Archive Book
This interactive experimental book presents an experience where participants can interact with abstract images of vivid and hallucinatory visuals derived from the NASA archive in order to play with the aesthetics of a psychedelic journey in space. Space is unfamiliar to us, which causes uneasiness due to the uncertainty of the unknown. However it is also fascinating as it initiates a journey of the exploration of an infinite universe. ‘Out of this World aims to portray the expansion of the consciousness which occurs during a psychedelic experience by envisioning the discovery of the unknown and the ethereal. Distorting imagery of planets from the NASA archive, aims to experiment with themes of adventure, abstraction and the portrayal of science fiction. Utilising materials such as clear acetate, glossy paper and holographic vinyl aim to produce psychedelic visuals through their pristine, futuristic and dynamic appearance. This book also encourages a sense of playfulness and exploration which is involved in psychedelic experiences that instructs users to overlap these fragmented visuals to produce their own imagery from the archive.
